Harry Clarke, Illustrations for E. A. Poe

Harry Clarke was a celebrated figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts Movement. Although stained glass work was central in his career, he was also an accomplished book illustrator. His use of heavy lines in his black and white book illustrations is probably derived from his glass techniques.
Clarke's work was influenced by both Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. His stained glass was particularly informed by the French Symbolist movement, so it's no wonder E.A Poe chose Harry Clarke to hauntingly illustrate "Tales of Mystery and Imagination".
